North England Regional Final: University of Bradford

Our final Regional Final for the Big Ideas Competition 2023 will be taking place at the University of Bradford on Friday 26th May.

We’re excited to be joined by 12 teams from 3 schools in North England who will present their Big Ideas to a panel of judges, made up of representatives from our Business Partners, Solutions for the Planet, professionals in the STEM/Sustainability/Education/Youth spheres, plus our very special young person judges. Team Turtlefish

Bradford Girls’ Grammar School

The turtlefish is a machine that will be used to collect ocean pollution. From a distance it will look like sealife so will not distrub life in the ocean. It will be able to be attached to bots that will then collect the rubbish from the ocean.

Bradford Girls’ Grammar School

A carbon powered vehicle – the product will photosynthesise to prevent C02 emissions with a carefully devised mechanism which allows the seperation of carbon dioxide into carbon.

Bradford Girls’ Grammar School

Our product generates hydroelectirc power within a households water-system as a source of renewable energy to save on bills and to earn some extra money. Additionally our product will have a water filter for clean water.

Bradford Girls’ Grammar School

Raising awareness to food poverty in Bradford and providing for those who need food most. Working with local charities to raise money and complete food drives to encourage more food to be donated.

Plastic Swimmers

Bradford Girls’ Grammar School

A compeition held each year that will raise awareness into plastic pollution. Swimmers will compete to collect as much plastic from the ocean in an alloted time, they will then need to create something new with the plastic they have collected. This will be shown as a TV show.

Earthly

Bradford Girls’ Grammar School

Earthly Phone, a fully sustainable mobile device with most of its componenets and sub-components orginating from recycled materials. The last phone you will need to buy as we will be updating devices remotely.

Hydro Fylter

Dixons Kings Academy

A water bottle which filters out dirty water so that you can drink water from anywhere. It will be made from recycled plastic found in our oceans and will feature many options to not only clean water but either keep it warm or cold.

GoGo Shoes

Dixons Kings Academy

They have designed a product called the GoGoshoes which have a machine implanted into them that will convert carbon dixoide into oxygen.

The Rotters

Settle College

A compacting machine that helps reduce food waste by compacting it into a smaller, more manageable form. The food waste can then be repurposed for various purposes, such as fertiliser production and compost.

RUNNERS UP

The Truck of Eden

Settle College

A small truck that plants trees and crops, which then enhances their growth using a special biochemical which flows through mycelium networks. The truck will be carbon neutral through use of Solar Panels on top.

Wormish

Settle College

Cleaning up the ocean with rubbish eating worms using DNA transpplants. The worms will digest the rubbish which will be dissolved in the worms stomach by enzymes.

Craze-E-Travel

Settle College

A product / service that converts petrol / diesel vehicles that already exist into environmentally friendly electric vehicles. The cars will be powered by solar panels and kinetic energy, they will not be using fossil fuels.
