Reports and Evaluations
We evaluate our programmes in order to measure their impact on young people, teachers, schools, business mentors, businesses and the wider society. We also want to ensure that we are accountable and continually improve the quality of our work. We are committed to demonstrating the impact of Solutions for the Planet on all participants involved, particularly young people.
Solutions for the Planet Impact Report 2022-23
Report Highlights
- Our biggest Big Ideas Programme to date with 3,659 students from 28 schools participating
- 99 business employees volunteered over
- 1,676 hours to mentor Big Ideas teams
- After taking part in the Big Ideas Programme
- 85% of teachers feel more confident discussing STEM-focused career options with students
- 100% of teachers think that The Big Ideas Programme helped their students become more environmentally responsible and understand more about sustainability
- 85% of teachers think that The Big Ideas Programme has encouraged students to think differently about their future career options
- 87% of mentors believe that mentoring young people has helped them in their professional life
- 7 MPs attended our Big Ideas Programme National Final at the Houses of Parliament in July
- Our Youth Insights Programme saw 36 young people volunteer 430 hours of their time over 6 sessions to give their opinions on the decisions and plans of a major utility company.

- 259 students participated in one of 6 regional-final events (72 teams)
- 149 business mentors supported the school this year
- 259 students achieved a Bronze CREST Award
- 82% of teachers say they have a better understanding of the jobs requiring STEM skills as a result of attending the Big Ideas Day
- 89% of young people think young people like them can make a difference to sustainability issues
- 80% of young people said the Big Ideas Day made them feel confident working in a team
- 94% of mentors say they’ve developed new communication skills from S4TP training and participating in the programmee

- 298 students participated in one of 6 regional-final events (72 teams)
- 107 business mentors supported the schools this year
- 298 students achieved a Bronze CREST Award
- 100% of teachers surveyed felt the Big Ideas Day was a success
- 91% of mentors are keen to recommend the programme to colleagues
- 72% of students said they were more interested in STEM subjects, as a result of attending a Big Ideas Day
- 70% of students understand more about the job opportunities using STEM skills, as a result of attending a Big Ideas Day

- 133 Big Ideas submitted to the competition involving 557 students
- 227 students participated in one of 6 semi-final events (60 teams)
- 63 business mentors supported the schools this year
- 227 students achieved a Bronze CREST Award
- 95% of teachers felt the Big Ideas Day was a success
- 91% of mentors are keen to recommend the programme to colleagues
- 74% of students said they were more interested in STEM subjects, as a result of attending a Big Ideas Day
- 71% of students understand more about the job opportunities using STEM skills, as a result of attending a Big Ideas Day
