We are coming to the end of the summer term and that means that we are over halfway through our Young Innovators Council (YIC) 2023 sessions. Through the panel, we have already explored how to recruit amazing young talent into Northern Gas Networks and understanding what an excellent customer journey looks and feels like to them. With such extensive and far-reaching topics, the young people of the YIC continue to demonstrate excellent problem solving skills, communication and finding confidence in their brilliant ideas.
Session 3 took place at the end of June and we wanted to find out how best to educate and engage this generation and their friends and families around net zero and the future of energy. The YIC indicated they would benefit from hearing directly from NGN on this vital topic all the way back in one of our first session in February 2021, and NGN have now appointed a dedicated Net Zero Educator.
In Session 3, we asked the young people of the YIC what they would expect to see from an educational workshop focusing on net zero and how this could be facilitated so that they get the most out of it. We want them to feel knowledgeable and empowered to talk about and engage those around them on why these goals are important and how they can be achieved. They shared some really exciting ideas for the types of activities that could be included and how this education programme should leave them feeling and thinking. As has been clear from the start of this inspiring S4TP Youth Insights panel, NGN’s Young Innovators Council show how businesses talking to and co-creating with their young stakeholders can bring about actionable outcomes for the benefit of both.
