S4TP & The UN Sustainable Development Goals: Our Progress & Promises

January 18, 2023

What are the Sustainable development goals?

The 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, adopted by all United Nations Member States in 2015, provides a shared blueprint for peace and prosperity for people and the planet, now and into the future. At its heart are the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), which are an urgent call for action by all countries – developed and developing – in a global partnership. They recognize that ending poverty and other deprivations must go hand-in-hand with strategies that improve health and education, reduce inequality, and spur economic growth – all while tackling climate change and working to preserve our oceans and forests.

What sustainability means to us…

  • S4TP’s definition of sustainability is about encouraging a particular mindset amongst producers, workers and consumers, so that they look beyond their individual needs and wants to instead think and act for the future of the planet.
  • The sustainability challenges we face globally can sometimes seem overwhelming, exhausting or even downright depressing. Solutions for the Planet offers hope, with a focus on optimism, inspiration, innovation and positive action led by young people.
  • Solutions for the Planet and sustainability means empowering young people to make kind and equitable choices, harnessing the power of individual responsibility for a precious planet that we are all trusted caretakers of.
  • Too often, sustainability is portrayed as the ability to maintain our existing way of life or defined as a sequence of things we need to stop doing. Solutions for the Planet has a wonderful opportunity to help create better visions of a sustainable future; visions that people want to run towards, rather than away from.
  • At S4TP we put this at the heart of what we do and share this concern with like-minded organisations and, most importantly, with young people.

How are S4TP working to achieve the goals?
