Our first Regional Final for the Big Ideas Competition 2023 will be taking place at Aston University in Birmingham on Monday 15th May.

We’re excited to be joined by 12 teams from 4 schools in Central England who will present their Big Ideas to a panel of judges, made up of representatives from our Business Partners, Solutions for the Planet, professionals in the STEM/Sustainability/Education/Youth spheres, plus our very special young person judges.

Eco-Cup

Alderbrook School

Two-layered cardboard coffee cup with seeds embedded inside. Used cups will be collected in special places.

A triangular shaped device that directs light to focused points to stop light impacting wildlife.

The Sharks

A shark-shaped submarine that collects plastic in the oceans and sends the waste for recycling.

Ocean Saver

A submarine collecting plastic in the ocean and selling it on.

Tackling the Impossible

Hodge Hill College

Drones collect plastic in the oceans using nets, while other drones deliver food to impoverished households. Sea water will also be filtered to drinking water and supplied to water-scarce areas and left over salt sold to companies.

Going Green

Hodge Hill College

An app that scans plastic items, tells you how to recycle it, and recommends an environmentally-friendly alternative.

A solar-powered mechanical bird that will plant seeds to regrow forests.

Eco Cycle

Woodbrook Vale School

An app that scans objects and identifies if it is recyclable.

Animal-themed backpack for 3-8 year olds that teaches what to recycle and has storage places to collect litter.

Eco Heat

Woodbrook Vale School

A non-profit providing advice on how to sustainably insulate your home and distribute blankets, warm clothing and heaters.

Aerial Mechanics

Woodbrook Vale School

A drone that plants seeds to rebuild woodland areas and decrease habitat loss. It will also record wildlife and species it encounters for research.
