“We have chosen to try and tackle the rising problem of mental health. We have chosen this issue because in the Uk around 1 in 4 people will experience a mental health problem each year. 1 in 6 people report suffering from a common mental health problem such as depression and anxiety each week. The number of people who self harm and commit suicide has increased in recent years.”

“Our big idea is a service to assist the UK’s mental health services when working with young children. Consultations with professionals can cause children to become nervous making diagnosis more difficult so our big idea is using dogs during consultations to calm the nerves of young children. We would also use dogs as therapy for children suffering with mental health and wellbeing. Studies have shown that just so much as playing with a puppy raises your levels of oxytocin and lower your levels of cortisol, a stress-inducing hormone. The dogs would have a recording device in their collar which would be then played back to the psychologist who would then be able to prescribe the right medication and then come up with a diagnosis to further help the young person.”

“Our big idea could revolutionise the way mental health consultations work in the NHS for young children by making them more comfortable talking to professionals in the service. It could also benefit the dogs as they will become trained as service dogs. We are aiming to be ‘Barking For a Better Future.’”

“We have chosen to tackle the problem of Food Waste – The amount generated and Food Poverty/Affordability. How many people in the UK are affected by hunger – with a focus on Bannockburn and its surrounding areas. We have chosen this because people may waste money on food that they might not need.Last year, there was an estimated 987,890 tons of wasted food and drink.”

“Our new and current Big Idea is a service to create food parcels, to distribute throughout our school community. After the government voted not to continue with free school meals during the school holidays, we felt we needed to help the families in our community struggling with food poverty – we believe in Food For ALL. In order to identify families that would need food parcels, we are working with charities like Stirling Citizen Advice Bureau and Home-Start Stirling.”

“A happier, healthier change for our community. Our vision is that more people have the money and confidence to support themselves and their family, that they have the chance for a better life.”

“We have chosen to tackle the issue of drink spiking and the date rape drug (rohypnol). Stories about this issue are often in the media and spiking occurs on a daily basis; but it is never brought into the light as much as other global issues. It is a sensitive topic that should be given more attention to prevent it from happening.”

“Our Big Idea is a product designed for the safety of adults. We have created a selection of straws and cups that will change colour depending on whether your drink has been spiked. The straws and cups will change colour inspired by litmus paper which indicates whether a substance is acidic or alkaline. We would use this to identify the additive of a strong acidic substance, that being rohypnol the date rape drug.”

Anybody who goes out partying regularly will benefit from this, people who do drink more often are more vulnerable as they lose their inhibitions. There are not many recent studies that show the causes of rape, which proves that this issue is highly neglected by the media! With our product we hope to help party goers feel more relaxed and less paranoid when they go out. They should be able to have fun without having to worry about being drugged.”
