a

UV Disguiser

“Our chosen issue is plastic waste. This is because this issue is endangering many animal species; it is endangering both us and it is our planetIt is creating plastic pollution, affecting our health, as well as degrading historical and agricultural land. Over 300 million tons of plastic is produced every year, half of which is used to design single-use items such as shopping bags, cups and straws. Of this huge amount, at least 8 million tons of plastic end up in our oceans every year.”

“Our big idea is a combination of two products. It is called the UV Disguiser. Made up of two components that will work together to reduce or contribute to reducing the amount of plastic in the ocean. The first component is smaller and will have a built-in optical plastic sensor. This machine will be sent out into the sea to sense plastic debris or particles. The second component is a bigger machine which will receive the data and go to the  co-ordinates. When it arrives, the outer doors of the machine will open to let the plastic enter a compartment. In this compartment, the plastic will be destroyed into small molecules.”

“Our Vision is that, with the assistance of our Big Idea, there would be no plastic debris, conquering our oceans and seas. If this issue of plastic waste is solved, our oceans would not be congested with debris, but with our healthy, marine life. Fewer species will become extinct, we will have the rare animal species back to look at and explore again. Animals that live underwater will have a greater life expectancy. So, this means that, just like us, those innocent creatures will have their rightful, long life.”
