“The cement industry is one of the primary producers of carbon dioxide, a potent greenhouse gas. Concrete causes damage to the most fertile layer of the earth, the topsoil. Concrete is used to create hard surfaces which contribute to surface runoff that may cause soil erosion, water pollution and flooding.” “This acute shortage of housing, particularly social and genuinely affordable housing, has led to spiralling rents and house prices across the country. Many young people and families on low to middle incomes struggle to afford to rent or buy a decent home.” “We generate around 5 million tonnes of plastic each year in the UK. That includes 15 million ‘single use’ plastic bottles per day. It takes one tonne of plastic to make 20,000 plastic bottles.” “60million plastic bottles are purchased across the world every minute of the day, and the worrying fact is that this number will grow a further 20% by 2021. Worst still, 90% of plastic bottles used aren’t even recycled and end up in landfills across our planet, sitting there and taking around 1,000 years to biodegrade. This is what has driven the idea of creating new structural adhesive using materials such as plastic.
