2021 Central England Green Regional Final Results!

On Wednesday 9th June our teams from schools across Central England attended the second day of the Big Ideas Competition 2021 Regional Finals!

This year, the teams presented their Big Ideas virtually, via Zoom, directly from the schools themselves. Each team presented in front of a panel of judges made up of our amazing business partners, S4TP staff, and our expert young people!

The first event was the Green Regional Final, where 10 teams presented, from the following schools: Heath Park School, Colton Hills Community School, Perton Middle School, and Hodge Hill College.  Each team delivered a 5-minute presentation and then answered questions from the judging panel.

The judges included representatives from our business partners –Andy Swain from Tarmac and Chantelle Feery from ISS Labour, as well as guest judges Kashmire Hawker and Janet Douglas!

The results were announced as follows:

Special Commendation:

Plastic Sucker, Perton Middle School:

“Our Big Idea is to get a pipe and tank and attach it to a boat and, while driving it, the plastic will be getting sucked up into a tank and can be recycled.”

Runners Up:

A Step Ahead, Heath Park School:

“Our Big Idea is we are going to create a campaign and we are going to do a craft sale where we make things out of recycled plastic. Attached to the product would be a little piece of card and on there would be a fact about plastic pollution and a way you can help so we are not only raising awareness and money but we are also educating people. In addition we are going to do a sponsored litter pick where people will sponsor us to pick up litter. Any profits will be going to a charity that deals with environmental problems especially plastic pollution and pollution in general.”

WASP, Colton Hills Community School:

“Our Big Idea is a Window Applicable Solar Panel – an adhesive solar panel – scalable to any size window.”

Winner

Planet Helpers, Heath Park School:

“Our big idea is to make dog toys (Mostly for puppies) out of Paper Mache, we would collect paper from schools and then make Paper Mache and lastly form them in lots of different and cool shapes.”

Planet Helpers are now through to the National Final which will take place as a Zoom event on the 23rd of June!

We wish Planet Helpers the best of luck as they prepare for the National Final. We also want to congratulate ALL the students who presented on Wednesday – the standard of ideas and presentations was incredibly high, and it was a wonderful way to continue our Regional Final season!
