Today is not what it could have been, but perhaps it’s something better?!
Thursday 25 June 2020 was the planned date for the Big Ideas Competition 2020 National Final at the Palace of Westminster. The culmination of a years worth of work for students, teachers, business mentors, judges and the Solutions for the Planet team. I say with confidence that anyone who has attended one of our Final events knows that there is a magic in the Attlee Suite in Portcullis House on that day.
This year, instead of starting my day with a walk across Westminster Bridge, I will start with #PEwithJoe, then make coffee and then head up my garden to the shed which has been my office and the Solutions for the Planet HQ for the last 3 months but then, when I sit down at my computer I will be transported into the magic world of Big Ideas.
The National Finals are a great day out, but what is far more important is the growth that happens within us all over the course of the year, particularly the young people and also business mentors that we work with. And in some ways, more than ever before, through lockdown and the #VirtualBigIdeasProgramme, we have seen that growth happen, we have seen magic happen, more than ever before.
Don’t worry we’ll celebrate! Whether that’s in an extraordinary virtual red carpet event or, fingers crossed, back at the Palace of Westminster on 18th November!
