Magnificent Mentors!

January 17th was International Mentoring Day, and so this month we’d like to share with you some of the comments that we’ve had from mentors about the impact of the programme on them:

“It has helped me to be more confident in suggesting ideas, even if they seem a bit ‘out-there.’ In helping out at the Big Ideas Days I have realised that I know more than I give myself credit for. We need to listen to the younger generations more, it’s their future and they have some fantastic, creative ideas. We should be recognising that we have skills that can help them to nurture those ideas and working together.” Mentor

I really enjoyed the Big Ideas Day. It was lovely to see all the children getting involved in the activities, being inquisitive, creative and enthusiastic.  It makes our roles as mentors so fulfilling and worthwhile.” Mentor

What a privilege to support, mentor and encourage these innovative ideas and many more from the young people during their Big Ideas Day. It’s great to work with young people who only think about possibilities when discussing sustainability issues and not the constraints (i.e. time, money, resource, etc) that the majority of adults take into consideration when problem solving!” Mentor

“Thanks for giving me the opportunity to support you on this, it was a fantastic day, I thoroughly enjoyed it. It was great to hear all the children’s ideas. I really do hope I can make a difference. I felt I built up a great rapport with most of them. It’s just great knowing I can put something back into the local community.” Mentor

“Quote from the day said by a student;

“How unrealistic can our ideas be Miss?”

 My response “What do you mean by unrealistic?”

Student “Well what if it doesn’t exist yet”

My response “Doesn’t exist YET?, that means you could be the one that creates it in the future, no idea is too big if its achievable one day”. ” Mentor

“The students have been really enthused and have gained such a lot from working alongside you.  We really appreciate your time and expertise!”          Head Teacher

The Big Ideas programme wouldn’t be the same without our incredible mentors, THANK YOU for all that you do!
