We’re sad to announce that Jess Mitchell is leaving Solutions for the Planet at the end of July.
Jess has been a great asset to the team and will remain a part of the wider Solutions for the Planet family. We wish her all the best in her new role in Leeds. Watch this space for news on our new Programme Coordinator(s) for our North England and Scotland programme.
I’ll leave you with a final note from Jess:
“I’ve had a wonderful two years at Solutions for the Planet. The main purpose of my job was to be enthusiastic about science and STEM, which has given me so much joy, and it has been wonderful to work with so many interesting and inquisitive young people. Not every student I have worked with will go on to be a scientist, not all of them decided to compete in the Big Ideas Competition, but this doesn’t matter. Every student I have engaged with over the past two years has had something interesting to say, and Solutions for the Planet has listened. I think that is what makes Solutions for the Planet so special – at its heart the organisation focuses on the individual and making small changes to create a ripple effect throughout schools, businesses, and communities. This approach has definitely had an impact on me personally, helping me develop my own teamwork and communication skills but also pushing me to become more ambitious in terms of how I use my STEM skillset.
At Solutions for the Planet we encourage our young people to dream big in solving the challenges that matter to them and seeing that message in action across the country is very inspiring. Although I will sincerely miss my team, teachers, mentors and of course the young people, I am now looking forward to my own new challenge of utilising my STEM and analytical skills within educational research.”
