October saw the launch of training in South East England for our partner companies and teachers. It was also my first experience of the mentor training days as the newest member of the Solutions for the Planet team.
The training takes place at our business partners’ sites across the region. The first training day took place at Tarmac’s offices in Silvertown in East London and the second will take place tomorrow at SGN’s offices in St. Mary Cray.
The training was attended by employees from Tarmac and SGN as well as teachers from participating schools in Newham and Kent. I enjoyed meeting the teachers and employees and talking about the year ahead. There was an even split between mentors new to the programme this year and those that had supported previously. This brought about useful conversations regarding the role of mentors and the delivery of the programme.
The day was a fantastic introduction to the programme, and the theory behind Solutions for The Planet’s approach.
The first training session was shortly followed by the first Big Ideas Day in the region, held at Plashet School on the 7th November. It was a fantastic day strongly supported by mentors and the school. I’m excited to see how the students’ Big Ideas will develop.
Next step – the first Big Ideas Day in Kent for 2017-2018 on 28th November at Greenacre Academy.
