Teachers and mentors from our partner companies will be gathering next week to launch the Big Ideas Programmes in our West Midlands (Arcadis, Brammer, Buck & Hickman and Tarmac) and North England and Scotland (IGEM, Mears Group, SGN and Tarmac). On the 10th October in Newcastle and 11th October in Solihull, teachers and mentors will come together for the Big Ideas Programme Training. The training is for employees from our business partners and teachers from our participating schools. It is a fantastic opportunity to network with colleagues and schools participating in the programme this year, as well as understand more about the programme and individual roles within it.
The training goes deeper into Solutions for the Planet’s project-based learning approach, what it means to be a mentor and how mentoring on the Big Ideas Programme is different to other types of mentoring and why the role of teachers is critical to the programme’s success.
Previous participants have said that what they particularly found useful was:
“Discussing the impact on myself as a mentor; groups I will be working with; and understanding some of the challenges and expectations.”
“Seeing examples of previous Big Ideas, raising awareness about how to work with children as mentor and their different expectations, ways of learning/thinking.”
“Meeting others to share ideas. Developing contacts. Getting the feel of the programme.”
“Understanding of how the day fits into the programme and what they should get out of it.”
