Following in the footsteps of the highly successful ‘Water Dragons’, Young Water Dragons was formally launched during the 2017 Big Bang Fair at the NEC in Birmingham.
Young Water Dragons celebrates the UK’s future creative thinkers, leaders and entrepreneurs in the water sector. The aim of the competition is to encourage schools to think differently about water, to develop projects and new ideas which challenge our thinking. Future Water Association introduced Young Water Dragons in 2016 to complement our hugely successful Water Dragons Competition. Young Water Dragons is aimed at students aged between 11 and 16 who have an interest in the science and management of water and who have an entrepreneurial flair!
Future Water Association runs the competition in association with the National Science Council and Engineering UK who manage the Big Bang Young Scientists and Engineers Fair. Young Water Dragons is one of the ‘Special Awards’ categories in the Big Bang Fair competition final.
Future Water Association is determined to grow this competition and reach out to as many young Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths (STEM) minded students around the country as possible. The initial focus will be continued support of the ‘Special Award’ category and presenting Young Water Dragons trophies at the National Big Bang Fair. Ultimately, we hope to run the competition with regional heats feeding through to the national final.
Encouraging young people to become involved in the water sector is essential to the future and the winners project, along with all the other projects reviewed, show how forward looking ideas abound in young minds. Young Water Dragons aims to encourage, support and develop this future thinking.
