Sad news from S4TP team

It is with great sadness that we must to inform you that our Chairman and dear friend Kevin Schofield passed away on the 22nd February 2017.

We know that this news will come as a huge shock; particularly because many of you will have not known that Kevin was ill.  The time between his initial diagnosis of pancreatic cancer and his subsequent death from the disease that had spread to his liver was measured in weeks.

As his friend and colleague Simon Pringle said “When referring to people who have been taken by cancer, it is not uncommon to hear that they somehow lost the fight.  Well, when Kevin learnt that he was terminally ill he lived his final weeks in just the way that those of us who know and love him would expect.  He lived them with dignity, grace, humour and a real sensitivity to the needs of others.”

Our CEO Jen Baughan adds “Over the past four years Kevin has supported both Solutions for the Planet and more personally my own professional and personal development as I took on increasing responsibility leading and growthing the business.  Kevin has been a colleague, supporter, councillor, mentor, friend and all round quality human being in my life and he will be proundly missed.  Kevin was a keen advocate for the work that we are doing at Solutions for the Planet and his legacy will live on through every young life that we touch through our work”

In the short term, we are inviting donations to the charity Macmillan Cancer Support who provided such valuable care to Kevin via JustGiving at this site –  https://www.justgiving.com/fundraising/Simon-Pringle

In the slightly longer term, it is his friends, family and colleagues plan to set up a bursary in his name.  This will be centred on his hometown of Burnley and will provide support to a talented student(s) who would not otherwise have the opportunity to obtain a university education.  Kevin had a true passion for innovation and creating access to opportunity, regardless of social background.  It is our intention to honour that commitment and we would invite the support of others in pursuing that goal.
